It's been my experience that the average person doesn't often think about real estate agents until one needs to hire an agent to sell or help buy a home. Since little thought is given to real estate agents, even less is attributed to whether the agent is a REALTORŪ. In fact, even real estate agents don't know what differentiates a REALTORŪ from a regular real estate licensee. Some scoff and shrug shoulders when asked, claiming the title is meaningless. Critics say it's a label given to anybody who joins the National Association of Realtors, and they believe there is nothing special about the status of REALTORŪ, even when they, themselves, are REALTORsŪ. It boggles the mind that individuals in the profession can be so misinformed about each other and themselves, but then I pause to consider that to some people the word integrity is meaningless as well. There are significant differences between REALTORsŪ and unaffiliated real estate agents, 17 of them.
