Agents Who Kickback Commission Credits to Home Buyers

Tuesday January 2, 2007
A potential home buyer called me last year about one of my listings. The first thing she asked was whether I credit commissions to buyers.

In actuality, there are a handful of agents who will give away a paycheck, but I'm not one of them. I explained to the buyer that she was free to submit an offer to me, but under those circumstances, I would not be representing her. However, I suggested she had better hurry up and submit an offer because another agent had already written an offer on that listing.

This buyer, trying to save money, hired a discount agent who agreed to a commission kickback. She then submitted an offer that was too low for my sellers to consider. Frustrated, she fired that agent and found another discounter to submit yet another offer. That offer was also unacceptable.

As this buyer was searching for her third real estate agent, my sellers went into escrow with somebody else. I have no idea if this buyer ever ended up buying a home. But that's not to say that agents who kickback commissions are inadequate or offer inferior service. I simply believe that they work with a different sort of home buyer . . . read more about Commission Credits to Home Buyers.
