Doing a For Sale By Owner: Tips to Help You Sell Fast

Monday April 2, 2007
Sellers who decide to sell as a For Sale By Owner -- a FSBO, without representation -- often start out with the best intentions; however, most of them end up listing with a real estate agent. Why is it so difficult for unrepresented sellers to sell their homes? Especially if inventory is tight, buyers should be flocking to to FSBO homes.

The three biggest reasons for sale by owners fail are:

  • Pricing (too high or too low)
  • Condition of home (not staged)
  • Little (or bad) marketing

Moreover, some buyers are afraid to approach a FSBO seller because they wonder what's wrong with the house that it's not listed in multiple listing or they figure the seller isn't serious, maybe asking too much for the home.

Here are for sale by owner tips that will help you overcome those hurdles and objections. From pricing your home right, to preparing it for sale and marketing it like a pro, this advice is how a real estate agent would sell your home. So now you can do it, too.
