Buying Newer vs. Older Homes
A reader asked me last week whether most buyers today lean toward buying "cookie-cutter homes in developments with no land." She is trying to sell her historic 1895 home, situated on two acres in Mebane, North Carolina, one of the last remaining homes on the Murray Plantation of Alex Haley fame. (The price is so good I've considered buying it myself.)
One buyer said she should "update" her kitchen, even though this seller has spent the last 12 years restoring the home to its original glory. The seller asked me, "Doesn't anybody appreciate older homes anymore?"
