Top 10 Gifts for Home Buyers

Wednesday December 5, 2007
If you're wondering about finding perfect holiday gifts for home buyers on your shopping list, look no further.

Although many of these gifts are suitable as a first-time home buyer or housewarming present any time of the year, these gifts will be especially appreciated during the holiday season.

Many buyers who purchase their first home have been living in apartments or with their parents and may have given little thought to items they may need for home ownership. I know when I bought my first home, I was astounded at the amount of stuff I needed to buy. I needed everything, from gardening tools to home maintenance books.

My mother gave me my first house-warming presents, which included a stand-up ironing board, steam iron and her old Betty Crocker cookbook. While I may not have appreciated the ironing board and iron all that much, I did use her Betty Crocker cookbook. Betty used simple and concise terms such as "turn on the oven" and "take out a bowl."

To this day, I still iron on a towel on top of my kitchen counter when I'm in a rush, but at least I know how to cook . . . read more about home buyer gifts.

Thanks for the tips. If you can’t decide what to get, I find a Home Depot or Lowes card works well. Home buyers find themselves at these stores a lot during their first year.

Personally, I hate closing gifts. Its just awkward to me to try and present them.

I do use lowes though. Through Realtor benefits I can buy a 50 gift card for just $47.50

That’s why I usually give a gift of spices. Everybody can use it. There’s nothing like Penzey’s spices. They are fabulous, and no, I don’t own stock in the company nor have any relationship with it.

However, sometimes I make exceptions. I had a client who wanted to write into the buyer’s offer that the buyer would give him a case of Rolling Rock beer and a carton of Camel cigarettes. So guess what he got for a closing present!

Closing present is very much necessary to keep up the relationship. I used to give electrical appliance….being a practical person!
