Book Review of Real Estate Agent's Guide to FSBOs
According to the National Association of Realtors, a very small percentage of FSBOs (for sale by owners) end up selling their homes without an agent. Most FSBOs eventually list with a real estate agent. The main reason FSBOs have trouble selling on their own is because they don't have access to a large pool of real estate buyers.
In fact, if you ask a FSBO why they are selling without an agent, one out of every two FSBOs will say it's because they want to save the commission. Maloof points to a NAR study, however, that says sellers make 32% more on the sale when they are represented by a real estate agent. Does this mean the agent does a better marketing job or is it because most home buyers hire an agent?
