Farmers Insurance is Not Just for Farmers

Friday April 11, 2008
Way back when my mom was growing up during the Great Depression, Farmers Insurance was a big name in homeowner's insurance. It still is today.

I am living proof that you never know what can happen to you. We have no crystal ball for disasters, and disasters can occur when you least expect it. If you expected it, it probably wouldn't be classified as a disaster.

In fact, I have survived three home disasters that involved insurance company claims over the past several decades. My husband says I am a jinx. The first was when my house fell into the ocean in Ventura. The second involved a freak hail storm that tore holes into my roof and siding on a home in Minneapolis. The last was when a tree fell on my home in Sacramento this spring.

You really do need homeowner's insurance, and not just because your lender may require coverage. Insurance covers other losses such as theft and liability, too. Farmers Insurance offers coverage not only for homeowners but also for renters. It's been around since 1928, and that's before my mother was born. She died in 2002 when she was 69, which makes me older than mud. Don't wait until you are older than mud to get homeowner's insurance -- OK? . . . read more about Farmers Insurance.
