American Home Shield Sells Home Protection Plans
I renew my policy every year, and I ask sellers to pay for a home protection from American Home Shield for my buyers, too. Why do I do this? Because one never knows what might go wrong in a home. For example, when I bought my home six years ago, it came with a stacked washer and dryer. The appliances at that point were about ten-years-old.
Sure enough, a year ago the washer konked out. I called American Home Shield, and it sent out a washer repair guy. He examined the washer and said it needed a new computerized board, which the manufacturer didn't make anymore. So, he offered to replace it with a brand new stackable washer and dryer unit. For free. That's what American Home Shield does. If it can't repair an item, it will replace it for free.
Except I didn't want a stackable washer and dryer. My husband yearned for one of those new-fangled front loaders on a pedestal. Turns out American Home Shield buys appliances at wholesale. So it offered me a generous credit for the new stackable unit, then bought and installed the front loaders at a fraction of the price new. Since my husband does the laundry, he owes me big-time . . . read more about American Home Shield.

I’m pleased you had a good experience with American Home Shield. My experience with home warranty companies has been shall we say… less than perfect. Although i did NOT deal with ASH, I had a terrible experience with Warrantech and ended up having to get the state attorney general involved before they got off their butts and honored their agreement. So I say Buyer Beware… if you have friends in high places… go for it, but if not.. be ready for a fight everytime something happens… I had 3 good fights that lasted for months. And the AC repair person they hired NEVER got paid!
I’ve hard of that happening with other home warranty companies, and I’m sorry you had to do battle to get the company to honor its warranty. One of the nice things about American Home Shield is it now has a new policy, called the Flex Combo Plan, that covers pre-existing conditions and previous repairs that were done incorrectly.
AHS are scam artists. They send out out contractors who are grossly underpaid, who then try to get their money back by making bogus ‘maintenance’ and ‘code upgrade’ claims, which AHS conveniently does not cover and the costumer has to pay out of pocket, to make up the money.

Not only did I have a HORRIBLE experience with AHS, but now they are calling me constantly to get me to renew my policy and won’t stop calling even tho I’ve told them NO!
I had a central vacuum cleaner system. It needed repair. I called AHS to get an authorization when the contractor came out (they couldn’t find one in my area and told me to find one myself). They grilled the contractor about what was wrong. The contractor said there was a missing piece (cost all of $17.00) and that the part he was working on wasn’t properly installed. AHS refused to pay anything for this contractor saying that they only cover “normal wear and tear” so I had to pay out $265 to cover the whole bill (he had to fix several “ports” too.) I called AHS customer service and talked to as many people as I could. They wouldn’t budge and basically said “too bad”. I have been researching this company and the complaints about them are volumenus. I firmly believe this company is a scam.
Air Conditioning Repair Tucson can not afford to do quality repairs at AHS rates.
