Chicago Title Insurance: Founded 1847 in Chicago
But then Chicago Title has operated continuously since 1847, and it's one of the oldest title insurance companies in the country.
Buyers should always obtain a title insurance policy when home buying. In some places, the title insurance company is chosen by the seller because it's the seller who pays for the buyer's policy. However, generally the buyer pays for the lender's ALTA policy, which is issued in conjunction with the owner's title policy. If the buyer is paying for the owner's title policy, then the buyer typically chooses the title insurance company.
The problem is most buyers and sellers have no idea which title insurance company to select so they leave that decision to their agents, which is why title insurance companies market to agents and not consumers. Yet, when it's your money that is paying for the title insurance, don't you think you should have a voice in the matter? . . . read more about Chicago Title Insurance.

why single out chicago title? I’m sure Chicago is, as you say “going strong”, but no stronger than Fidelity, or Ticor (all owned by FNF). Is this a paid advertisement? which i have no problem with but would it not be prudent to disclose that?
Because I can only write one blog at a time? I have articles about other title insurance companies on my site. Go here: http://homebuying.about.com/od/titleinsurance/Title_Insurance_Companies.htm
I practiced real estate law for 20 years and now as a Realtor I see a tremendous need for free education online for buyers and sellers. You do a great job with your articles here. I enjoy reading them, too. Thanks.
Yes why would u single out Chicago when there others?
Thanks, Chuck. It’s not always easy being odd guy out.
And Leon: please read the previous comment. I have more title companies on my site and will do blogs about them, too. I’m not singling out any title company. Just providing information.
