Record numbers of foreclosures are hitting the market, resulting in a wave of foreclosure crimes, especially in neighborhoods where a multitude of bank-owned homes are for sale.

The police arrested a string of criminals in Sacramento last month. These thieves were breaking into homes, removing all the appliances and ripping out the copper plumbing. How did the police find them? The neighbors tipped them off.

Many foreclosed homes sit empty and abandoned for months before banks get around to putting them on the market. The longer a home sits vacant and unattended, the more likely it is that it will attract unwanted attention from unsavory individuals.
