How to Remodel Your Kitchen in 10 Easy Steps

Monday November 3, 2008
About half the work of a kitchen remodel is done before any contractor steps in your home.

It's the selection process that takes so much time. I probably thought about the type of kitchen I would like to have for five years before my husband and I chose our cabinets, hardware, appliances, countertops, sink, faucets, lighting, flooring and wall color. OK, so his involvement was pretty much involuntary. Still, he did pick out the dishwasher, after combing Consumer Reports. And he had the final say on cabinet hardware among my top five picks.

It helped that I knew exactly what I wanted and didn't want. For example, cherry cabinets would have looked ridiculous in my 1948 home, because I wanted the kitchen to be modern, timeless and to blend with the rest of our home. Once you get over the cabinet hurdle, the rest of your selections will be easier. Then buy your products and materials, and get them delivered before the demolition begins . . . read more about Kitchen Remodels.
