There are many reasons to buy a home, but the most common is to have control of one's own space.

The primary reason I bought my first home was to blast my stereo. After I moved in, I cranked up the music so loud that my cats were forced to cover their ears with their little kitty paws. But no neighbors banged on the walls or called the police to report me. I was ecstatic.

Not only that, but owning my own home meant I could drill holes through the floors and walls to run speaker wires to any room in the house without asking for permission or worrying that I'll lose my security deposit. I could do whatever I wanted, with or without reason, within the confines of my own four walls.
