The main reason to hire an agent is because a real estate agent is supposed to know more about real estate than you do.
Most sellers and buyers hope to engage the services of an agent who has been around the block a few times and has a wealth of experience to draw from -- experience that will prevent mistakes or at least catch them before they become serious problems. If you know more about real estate than your agent does, you may not need the services an agent provides.
