When to Disconnect Utilities When Home Selling

By July 2, 2012

When to disconnect utilities during home selling and the moving out process is often a big concern. One of the recurring problems I see with sellers moving prior to the close of escrow relates to water leaks. Specifically, the shut-off valves on the water faucets to the washing machine. Generally, sellers don't turn off any other shut-off valve in the house except for those in the laundry room. These shut-off valves probably haven't been turned off in years. So, when you think the valves are completely turned off, sometimes they aren't and, because the fittings are so old, they begin to leak. A small leak over a few weeks can flood a room.
