RESPA

Definition: The Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act passed legislation in 1974 and was designed to curb fraud in the mortgage industry by prohibiting kickbacks or illegal fees and through disclosure of all loan costs to a borrower.
Examples:
It is a violation of RESPA for a real estate agent to receive a referral fee from a lender.
